It is true that Lovecraft is sometimes seen as the crazy uncle of the literary world but his stories reflect human life just as well as any other classic writer. ┬áIn The Call of Cthulhu Lovecraft write, “We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.” Lovecraft is aware of the human condition and how far we are from completely understanding a world which we have barely discovered. I see The Call of Cthulhu as a warning of how far human ignorance stretches and consequences of when our discoveries lead to unimaginable and unstoppable destruction.
